According to consultant plastic surgeon and BAAPS President Fazel Fatah;

“We’re delighted that at least a proportion of women who chose this method of payment should now have recourse to securing reimbursement for what are clearly defective, substandard goods. It has been our stance at the BAAPS throughout that PIP implants should be removed and preferably before rupture. It is a shame that many of the clinics that most commonly used these devices are still refusing to replace them free of cost, but this development should at least offer a ray of hope to many of their patients.”

Both Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group and The Hospital Group bowed to pressure from the Government and patients by announcing the Uturn on their websites.

Harley Medical still stands firm on its refusal to offer patients free removal.

The Situation:

Transform will provide a scan to see if the PIP implants have ruptured FREE and remove the implants for FREE regardless. Transform will replace the implants for a discounted cost of £2500.

The Hospital Group is offering FREE removal of PIP implants for patients between 2001 and 2009 and replacement with Allergen implants for £1500.

As a result, the German BfArM Institute have amended their advice of 6 January 2012 to remove PIP and Rofil implants to include removal of TiBREEZE implants as a precautionary measure even without any symptoms of rupture or other concerns.

So far it is thought about 728 implants were manufactured in this time. Most of the affected women are thought to be from Germany although the implants were sold globally including to some British women. It is unknown at this stage how many British women have the TiBREEZE implants.

The boss of the PIP company is thought to have been arrested & detained as part of the judicial investigation started in December concerning manslaughter and involuntary injuries as a result of the companies illegal cost cutting and use of industrial grade silicone.

Another PIP executive, Claude Couty, who served as Chief Financial Officer has also been arrested sources state.

The arrogant Jean-Claude Mas has been quoted as saying he had “nothing” to say to women facing surgery for their removal and that victims had only filed complaints “to make money”
